Born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and
raised there as a Roman Catholic, Doug was the least likely
person ever to become a pastor! Angry and rebellious as a
youth, he searched for life's underlying truths in some bizarre
ways: experimenting with "mind-expanding" drugs,
testing various world religions, losing himself in poetry, then
trying to find himself with a degree in philosophy. "Why
don't you try Jesus?" a Godly Moravian pastor advised him,
and from the moment Doug did that, his life was instantly
transformed.
Re-created and re-directed, Doug became
an ordained Moravian minister, and now holds a B.A. with honors
in philosophy from Moravian College, an M.Div. degree from
Moravian Theological Seminary (1973), a Th.M from Princeton
(1977), and a D.Min. from the Assemblies of God Theological
Seminary (2001). His nearly thirty years of ministry,
characterized by powerful evangelistic preaching, Biblical
models of discipling, and concentrations on church growth,
include:
“The Message”
[1970-1973]: ministry on the streets of Allentown PA;
Battle Hill Community Moravian
Church, Union NJ [1972-1980]: Pastor;
Evangel Moravian Church, Toms
River NJ [1980-1991]: Church planter and pastor;
Cornerstone Ministries
International 1991-2001]: Co-founder and Director.
Broken Jars [2001 –
present]; Founder and Executive Director
In 1989, while ministering in Suriname,
the Lord gave Doug a fiery vision of an outpouring of the Holy
Spirit that would radically change the Caribbean and South
America, and ultimately the world. In the next two years He
quietly prepared Doug to serve Him in bringing about that
vision. In 1991, after a miracle-filled trip to Jamaica
convinced him that the vision was too compelling to resist, he
resigned from pastoral ministry in New Jersey to help bring the
fire of God to the region on a full-time basis. From that
moment until the present, Doug has focused his life in
fulfilling that vision.
Doug and his wife Sarah now make their
home in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
